What is VMI

VMI stands for "Vendor Managed Inventory", also known as "Supplier-managed Inventory (SMI)". This is a logistics tool to improve supply chain performance, where the supplier has access to the customer's inventory and demand data. With VMI, the supplier takes responsibility for the inventory of its products at the customer's site. Inventory at the customer is entirely initiated by the supplier. Often, the customer is given the full right of return in return. The basis for calculating deliveries is, for example, consumption or sales figures, which can either be recorded during regular replenishment by the supplier or transmitted electronically.

Benefits of the io-market VMI module

Since the supplier is automatically informed about your current stock level and which products, makes or assemblies are planned, he can plan in advance. This means that there are never any delivery bottlenecks and your supplier can make optimum use of his production chain. You define the framework conditions for the delivery quantity yourself in advance. This way, you keep the controls in your hand.
